BRIAN SMITH - LEAD PHOTOGRAPHER

He learned his way of photography in more traditional way—working for; a Time magazine authorized film development lab, a Pentax camera in Tokyo, as a photographer for Knight Ridder paper...before he started his own studio. He is one of the few photographers nowadays who actually understand the science of light in studio photography. Most photographers stay within their boundary of photography, but Brian approaches photography like a true commercial artist—“How does this help the brand?” He provides valuable insights to what it takes to create a memorable, unique brand.

SHOKO SMITH - PROJECT MANAGER / PRODUCER / ART DIRECTOR

Born and raised in Tokyo, it’s sort of a long story how a girl from Toyko ended up in Salt Lake. She graduated with a Commercial Arts degree with graphic design emphasis, she pursued her initial career as a graphic designer working for design and ad agencies. She has developed her career path to focus more on experiential design in recent years. Experiential design is a branding of physical spaces. It requires great understanding of the space occupants and what needs to be represented of them. Along with her continuous marketing career, she typically earns the nickname of ”the Boss.”

She is the point of contact for clients, contractors and vendors as a producer, and has experience producing small to large scale photoshoots. At BPD Studios, we like to keep things rather low-key. We don’t bring a huge truck load of stuff to our shoots. It is usually a big inconvenience for the locations and we like to keep our impact minimum. By creating smaller, more intimate setting, it is easier to be relaxed, be more creative and most importantly, have fun. She will keep track of the progress, schedule, and facilitate meetings while providing input as an art director herself.
